Initial Clinical Condition
The patient reported persistent pain in the right knee for several months, with progressive worsening of symptoms.
Pain intensified while walking, standing for prolonged periods, and climbing stairs. He also reported morning stiffness and a sensation of joint instability.
Conservative treatment with anti-inflammatory medication and analgesics had previously been attempted, providing only temporary relief. At this stage, the patient did not wish to undergo surgical intervention.
The case was clinically evaluated through assessment of joint mobility, pain intensity, and degree of functional limitation.
An individualized protocol with intra-articular medical ozone injections was established.
The treatment plan included:
• 6 intra-articular injection sessions
• Controlled intervals between sessions
• Aseptic technique and minimally invasive procedure
• Continuous monitoring of clinical response throughout treatment
The objective was to reduce joint inflammation, improve local oxygenation, and stimulate biological repair mechanisms.

Clinical Rationale of the Protocol
The case was clinically evaluated through assessment of joint mobility, pain intensity, and degree of functional limitation.
An individualized protocol with intra-articular medical ozone injections was established.
The treatment plan included:
• 6 intra-articular injection sessions
• Controlled intervals between sessions
• Aseptic technique and minimally invasive procedure
• Continuous monitoring of clinical response throughout treatment
The objective was to reduce joint inflammation, improve local oxygenation, and stimulate biological repair mechanisms.
Clinical Progress and Results
After the second session, the patient reported increased confidence while walking and gradually resumed daily activities.
By the end of the protocol, the following improvements were observed:
• Clear reduction in pain intensity
• Improved joint mobility
• Greater stability when climbing stairs
After treatment, pain levels decreased from 8/10 to 2/10 on the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS).
The patient resumed daily walking without fear of intense pain and progressively returned to regular activities.
Follow-up evaluation confirmed maintenance of clinical improvement.
Medical Commentary
Each case of knee osteoarthritis must be evaluated individually.
Intra-articular medical ozone therapy acts directly on the inflammatory process, enhances tissue oxygenation, and stimulates natural repair mechanisms.
The goal is not only to relieve pain but also to improve joint function and overall quality of life.
Treatment indication should always be based on detailed clinical assessment.
Other Applications of Ozone Therapy
Medical ozone therapy is also used in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation, as part of individualized protocols aimed at reducing inflammation and relieving pain.
Do you have knee pain?
If you are experiencing knee pain, limited walking ability, or persistent discomfort, do not delay seeking medical evaluation.
Each case is different and requires proper clinical analysis to determine the best therapeutic approach. We may use infiltrations with medical ozone, PRP, or combined protocols, depending on clinical evaluation.
At Ozonoterra Médica, in Tunes, Algarve, we conduct individualized assessments and explain all available treatment options.
